Adopt a sloth and help Sloth Conservation safeguard a future for sloths! A great gift for anyone who truly loves sloths and nature, and who would love to do their bit. It's also a great gift for someone who has everything and who values the natural world. You can choose between a virtual or physical package. Adopt a Sloth from the Sloth Conservation Foundation
There's a Virtual Adoption (sent by email) and a Premium Adoption (which comes via mail) and there are a number of sloths to choose from - difficult to choose - they all look just gorgous!
The Sloth Conservation Foundation warns that things may load rather more slowly than you're used to - sloth speed, so please be patient! Adopt a Sloth from the Sloth Conservation Foundation About the Sloth Conservation Foundation The Sloth Conservation Foundation (SloCo) was founded in 2016 by Dr Rebecca Cliffe, a sloth researcher. It is dedicated to saving sloths in the wild. Dr. Cliffe has worked extensively in the field with sloths for over 10 years. She has conducted field research and published many scientific papers regarding the ecology, biology, genetics and physiology of sloths in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Brazil. During this time, she has seen the problems that wild sloth populations are facing. And so SloCo was founded, determined to stimulate progressive change and achieve lasting solutions through research and conservation initiatives. About sloths and why they need help For sloths are creatures of habit. They are beautifully adapted for life high up in the canopy of tropical rainforests. They hardly need to come down to the ground. But of course, the rainforest on which they depend is being disturbed by human development – and that activity is cutting the forest into small, isolated segments. And the sloths, creatures of habit, cannot adapt. So we are going to need long-term conservation solutions which meet the needs of both people and sloths, so that they can co-exist long term. SloCo's approach Today, SloCo has developed a variety of strategies and programmes which aim to achieve this long term co-existence. These include increasing habitat connectivity in urban areas, educating children in local communities and conducting scientific research into many different aspects of sloth biology and ecology. |
